The school council was formed because we really value the opinions of our pupils and we wanted to give them a forum in which they could voice these. A school council also gives our children the opportunity to help improve school life with their ideas and to facilitate a group of children working together as part of a team, developing their character skills, communication and resilience.

National Year of Reading Competition

For the month of February, the school council launched an exciting Reading Competition. Each child received a paper plate and was challenged with creating their favourite book character! The school council came up with some ideas themselves and shared these with the school. The school council then judged all of the fantastic entries and chose their 3 favourite ones from each class. Each winner received a brand new reading book and themed badge.

ROSSINGTON YOUTH COUNCIL MEETING 🤝
Our Year 6 School Council members took part in the Rossington Youth Council meeting, kindly hosted by Pheasant Bank School. All of the Youth Council members from across Rossington asked some excellent and thoughtful questions and had an important voice in discussing future events and positive changes they would like to see for young people in the village. Summer events were a particular priority for the group. The Rossington Parish Council members left the meeting with lots of ideas to consider and will have much to share at tomorrow’s Full Parish Council meeting. Well done to the youth of Rossington for representing their schools and community so positively! 🌟

Letter to Doncaster Council

Our dedicated school council have been working hard recently, writing a letter to the Traffic Enforcement department at Doncaster Council. The children recognized a problem concerning the traffic outside of school at drop off and pick up times and worked together to address it. As you can see, they wrote a very strong and compelling letter – my contribution was to tell them when to start a new paragraph! Last week, the children were delighted to see their efforts had paid off as two patrol officers came to observe the traffic situation one morning just before school and told the boys and girls their letter had prompted their visit! We would really appreciate your support in helping us to keep the road outside of school safe for our children and we will keep you updated on this issue. Well done to our St. Joseph’s school council for being proactive and helping to lead an improvement for our school community.

Smoothies for Sale

The School Council came up with an idea to make and sell smoothies for the whole school to help promote healthy eating. They made posters to advertise their venture, and they decided that the funds raised would go towards buying new balls for everybody to enjoy playing with at breaktimes and in PE lessons. They even had to make more smoothies another day as they were so popular!

Empathy assembly

The school council led our Gospel assembly this week, and we've definitely got some future teachers amongst us, commanding a rather large audience with skill and ease! They retold the story of the Good Samaritan, reinforcing Jesus' message that everyone is our neighbour and we must try to show kindness and empathy to all. What a great job they did!

New P.E. kit!

In the autumn term, the school council were kept busy designing and bringing their vision of a school P.E. uniform into fruition. There were many factors to consider: hoodies or zips, jumper colour, logo colour and size, writing on the back or not. After that, the school council launched the P.E. kit to the whole school. Everyone agrees they did a great job, and the hoodies are not only super smart but also super comfy too!

Doncaster Holocaust Memorial Service 2025

Our school councillors contributed prayers and a reflection at the annual Holocaust Memorial Service at the Mansion House in Doncaster this week. They were respectful of the solemnity of the occasion and behaved impeccably. They listened attentively to other speakers and were able to discuss the ways in which we can create a better future by encouraging others to learn about the Holocaust. As always, we were very proud of our St. Joseph's boys and girls.
