Lent 2026 celebrations at St Joseph's School

Lenten Mass

Father John joined us in school for our Lenten Mass. We gathered together in the hall and listened to readings and prayers, which were lead by some of our Year 6 children. We sang hymns together and of course listened to one of Father John’s stories. Today he told us the story of The Rainbow Fish, which helped us all to think about giving up something we love during the period of Lent ✝️

Easter in a Box Workshop

Year 4 worked with Pastor Eric and Mrs Acton during an 'Easter in a Box' workshop. They worked together to explore different clues in different boxes as they learnt all about Holy Week.

  • Lenten Liturgies

Our KS2 classes each took it in turns to perform a Lenten liturgy to the whole school. Each class told part of the Easter story during Holy Week in school. 

Year 5 - Palm Sunday

Year 5 told the story of Palm Story in their liturgy. The school learnt that Jesus rode into Jeruslalem on a donkey and was greeted by a crowd cheering and praising him - it truely was a joyous event.

Year 3 - Garden of Gethsemane

Year 3 retold the events in the Garden of Gethsemane, including how Jesus prayed and was betrayed. They reflected on the importance of following Jesus’ example in our own lives, showing love, courage, and faith even in difficult times.

Year 4 - The Last Supper

Year 4 told the story of The Last Supper in their Lent liturgy with lovely readings, prayers, acting and singing.

Year 6 - Stations of the Cross

Year 6 closed Holy Week by retelling the events of the Stations of the Cross. Their sombre and moving performance gave the whole school community a meaningful opportunity to reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice and love.

Big Lent Walk 2026
Our pupils completed their Big Lent Walk during Holy Week and what an amazing effort it was!

They walked or ran non-stop for a whole hour around the school field, collecting an Easter-themed stamp after each lap. It was wonderful to see such determination, energy, and enthusiasm from everyone involved.

We were also delighted to be joined by parents, carers, and family members – thank you for coming along and supporting the children.
