ST THERESE - Y1 October 2020

Year 1 spent some time studying the wonderful St Therese, who is known as 'The little flower of Jesus'. We learnt about her life and how she wanted to enter the monastery from a young age. We discussed why she is known as the little flower and found out that it is because she believed in demonstrating kindness to all. For that reason, we painted flowers and thought of a kind thing to do for each flower that we painted. Our art work is displayed in our classroom to remind us to be show kindness.

LITANY OF THE SAINTS - Y3 October 2020

Year 3 have been learning all about baptism. One of our lessons was all about the Litany of the Saints, which is an important prayer asking Saints to look after the individual being baptised. We discussed many different Saints, but focused specifically on St Teresa of Avila.

She was a Spanish Saint. St Teresa was not always a good person, but she started making really good life choices. This meant that she became a Saint. We spoke about how it is important to apologies for our bad choices, and make sure we learn from them to make good life choices.

We celebrated St Teresa of Avila by reading baptism promises, drawing a picture of her, and sewing a heart with her symbols.

This is a heart for her love of God. Her heart was pierced by a flaming arrow of God’s love. The dove represents the Holy Spirit.

FEAST DAY OF OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY - Wednesday 7th October 2020

Today marks this special feast day in the Roman Catholic Church. According to Catholic traditions, the rosary was given to Saint Dominic in a vision of the blessed Virgin Mary.

Mary was assumed into heaven with her son Jesus Christ and is often referred to as 'Queen' because of her motherhood and because God gave her an exceptional role.

Rosary beads help us to count the number of Hail Mary's said and the fingers are moved along the beads as the prayers are recited.

To mark this feast, I am setting you a challenge to create a rosary bead at home. Please click here to find some ideas of how you could create one yourself and there is a link to further activities you might choose to do.

Saints Day

Nursery - Feast day of St Therese 1st October

On Thursday 1st October the Nursery learnt about the good work done by St Therese whose feast day is celebrated on 1st October.

The children found out that the work of St Therese teaches us to do the ordinary things of life with extraordinary love. A smile, a word of encouragement, helping each other at school and to share what they play with. The smallest action, done with love, is more important than great deeds done for personal glory.

The children learnt that she is known also as “The Little Flower of Jesus” or just “The Little Flower”.  To celebrate this day each child cut around their own flowers to create a floral display.
